3rd annual Day Function

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

The students of Slate-the-School, Ameerpet, presented an impressive cultural programme at the Shilparamam Amphi theatre to celebrate their third annual day. The highlight of the programme was items, songs and dances reflecting Telugu culture, heritage and classical and folk traditions.

Telugu Utsavam

Slate — The School at Ameerpet celebrated ‘Telugu Utsavam’ at its premises to highlight the significance of Telugu culture and tradition.
On the occasion the staff and students were dressed in traditional attire. The entire school was decorated with diyas and rangoli to bring out the ethnic flavour not forgetting the traditional cuisine that was served on plantain leaves.

Prinicipal Meenakshi Raman said the ‘Telugu Utsavam’ was an attempt by the school to make children aware of the importance of the mother tongue in times when children are seen getting carried away by western culture. School Correspondent Vasireddy Amarnath said it is the primary duty of every individual to preserve the inherited culture.

A peacock dance, ‘Dhimsa’-the tribal dance and a scene from the Mahabharata, the ‘Padya Natakam’, were presented on the occasion.

Proud moments: Tiny tots from Slate-The School interact with inmates of Home for the Aged.

Slate- The School
The students of first and second standards from Slate-The School had a very different experience when they were taken to old age homes. Class II students visited the Chandra Rajeshwara Rao Home for the Aged on August 12 while those from Class I were taken to the Little Sisters of Charity Home for the Aged on August 13. The students distributed fruits and new clothes to the senior citizen apart from interacting with them.
